Oregon Is Strong And Prospers When All Oregonians Prosper. Protecting and safeguarding all our rights in the workplace, helping our Oregon employers make their workplaces safer and better for us all, creating and supporting educational opportunities to train the workforce our state needs creates a prosperous economy in Oregon, and makes Oregon stronger.
It's in Oregon's interest to invest in Oregonians.
Encouraging greater investment in education, technical and career training, internships and apprenticeships in trades prepares Oregonians for careers that support themselves and their families, and contribute to our state.
Oregonians deserve wages that allow them to live.
No one who works full time should be paid so little that they can't afford a place to live, heat and light, or water to drink and food to eat. No one should have to work three jobs to be able to afford these basic costs of living and no parent should have to choose between seeing their children or feeding them.
Oregonians deserve a livable minimum wage and a cost of living that is achievable by all Oregonians.
Protecting Oregonians' right to form or join a union strengthens Oregon's middle class.
Your right to form and join a union is a protected right to freely assemble and to freely associate, and is guaranteed by the US Constitution.
One way to strengthen that right is to remove barriers to forming a union in the workplace, to make it easier for people who want to form a union in their workplace by making Oregon the nation's first "card check" state.
Today, to form a union, all employees must vote in a secret ballot overseen by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
A "card check" regulation or law would allow employees to simply fill out a card stating they want to be represented by the union and mail it to the NLRB. Just as we in Oregon have been leaders in removing unnecessary barriers to voting with vote-by-mail, we can lead the nation in removing unnecessary barriers in our workplaces by becoming the nation's first "Card Check State."
Creating and supporting truly sustainable industry creates a sustainable future for Oregon.
In Oregon we've been blessed with environmental riches: green forests, high desert, one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, clean air and fresh water in abundance, but if we don't protect it, we'll lose it.
Building a strong economy for our people doesn't require destroying our natural environment. By actually confronting what is needed to build sustainable industries and support sustainable companies, we can build an equitable, sustainable society that will be livable and will be there for all of us, and for future generations.
