Who is Chris Henry?
What does he advocate for?

Chris is a third-generation, long-haul, union truck driver and former aircraft mechanic. He served as a union shop steward and organizer, and as the co-chair of the Oregon Progressive Party. Chris was a student at Clackamas Community College and went on to Portland State University.

"I, Chris Henry, am running for Oregon State BOLI Commissioner. I pledge to work in the public interest and the common good of Oregon’s working people."

"I advocate for: -
  • Take Back Our Commonwealth!
  • Tax The Rich AND Jail The Cayman Island Offshoring Tax-Dodgers!
  • Take Back The Ballot Box!
  • Real Campaign Finance Reform and Campaign Ad Disclosures. Rank Choice Voting! (No More So-Called "Spoiler Effect"). Multi-Member Districts. Uni-Cameral Legislature (Politicians closer to The People)
  • Take Back The Banking System!
  • Create An Oregon State Bank AND Publicly-Owned Municipal (City/County/Regional) Banks. Divest From Wall Street!
  • Create a Living Wage!
  • A $15/hr. Standard Minimum Wage w/ a $20/20 vision ($0.25 raises/yr. for the next 20yrs)
  • A $20/hr. Prevailing Minimum Wage w/ a $25/20 vision ($0.25 raises/yr. for the next 20yrs)
  • A Maximum Wage w/ a 10:1 Wage Ratio (if there is a minimum wage, then, there should be a maximum wage and a wage ratio to bring about a true Living Wage and so that ALL boats rise together. NO profits w/o all working people profiting, too!)
  • Strengthen and redefine overtime laws: Time and a half after 8 hours and 40 hours. Double time after 10 hours and 50 hours. Triple time after 12 hours and 60 hours.
  • Do a feasibility study into creating a "PERS For All" retirement system for all workers.
    • A 4 Day Work week and a 3 Day Weekend every weekend to mitigate CO2 emissions and to facilitate more quality time w/family and involvement in community and civic life.
    • Declare Oregon a Union Card-Check State and the Sunday before Labor Day Officially Oregon Card-Check Day. Do Mass Mailers of Union Cards to ALL workers. And declare Labor Day "First Day" of "Good Faith in Collective Bargaining Day." Following the first week in September of circulating and gathering union cards to and from workers in a rush week to sign cards.
    • Declare May Day jointly "First Contract Day" and "First Strike Day" after 8 months of contract negotiations. The Spring and Summer (good weather) months prior to the next Labor Day will be available for rolling general strikes.
    • Full unionization of ALL workers (Collective Bargaining Agreements)
    • Organization of worker-owned co-operatives (Co-operative Bargaining Aggreements)
    • Democratization of the workplace
    • Take Back The Schools!
    • Publicly-funded education from daycare and pre-K to trade union guilds and job skills to higher education and life-long learning
    • Take Back The Hospitals!
    • Universal Medicare for All Healthcare (w/Mental Health, Dental, Vision, Naturopathic, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, etc.)
    • Strong responsible workplace safety regulations and enforcement.
    • Take Back The Commons!
    • Restore Industry to the people: Expand the definition of "Public Utility District" to include the petroleum industry, the freight industry, the forest industry, the factory farming industry, the grocery industry, etc. to be owned and operated jointly and co-operatively by "We The Rate-Payers" and the unionized worker-owners. Legal Civic-Ownership of the Means of Production.
    • Transitioning to a vibrant green economy and peace economy: Reign in the Military Industrial Complex! (As, my grandfather was Eisenhower's speechwriter, I see the M.I.C. as an industry in need of a radical transformation form the largest CO2 polluter on the planet to a Prime Directive of peaceful purposes.) We need a new Civil Conservation Corps and Federal Jobs Program.
    • Advocate to close ALL overseas US military bases and bring the troops home to create a peace economy along side the green economy. Turn the US Military, Humanitary based on the Kellogg-Briand Pact and ratified by the US Senate.
    • Create an Oregon Peace Tax Fund to form an Oregon Department of Peace and divert War Tax dollars to free-education, training and life-long learning, a universal basic income and universal single-payer healthcare. Oregon should be declared a Peace State and build a Peace'agon on the 45th Parallel in Salem as a tribute to our peaceful resolve. If PDX gets a MLB team, they should be called the Portland Peaceniks or an NFL team called the Portland Peacemongers and both should wear tie-died uniforms.
    • End All Fossil Fuel and Logging Subsidies; Shift Subsidies To Industrial Hemp Industry As A Carbon Sink Using Hemp Fiber Instead. Retrofit Logging Trucks To Carry Large Bins of Industrial Hemp Bales to Manufacturing Facilities and Mills to be processed into useable forest and fuel alternative products. Unionize all hemp truck drivers and hemp mill workers and turn their entire industry in worker-owned co-operatives. No more logging for-profit... Keep the trees in our forests and the fuel in the ground.
    • Take Back The Forests!
    • Create an ArborCorps (patterned off of the Civilian Conservation Corps) to plant trees on a massive scale to mitigate global destabilization.
    • Take Back The Streets!
    • Asphalt neighborhood streets are a relic of the fossil fuel industry and cut off neighbor from neighbor. City streets should be turned into parks and dog park and community gardens to re-connect neighborhoods and facilitate generational family, neighbor, community and civic engagement and involvement... More livable neighborhoods w/ parking on the busier main thoroughfares to park individual and community-owned per-use type cars.
"I will advocate for workers to raise wages and improve working conditions for the marginalized, working poor, and families."
"My vision is a world that works for all.
My goal is to bring a little piece of it to Oregonians.
